Pearl Harbor 75th Anniversary
This World War I style helmet was the type that was in use by our armed services at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. The more familiar WWII “steel pot” did not appear as standard issue until 1942. Due to their isolation POW US service personnel who had been captured early in the war by the Japanese did not recognize their 1945 liberators as fellow Americans.
This helmet, along with other Pearl Harbor artifacts, is on display at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum.
