Soldiers & Sailors Partners with the National Veterans Art Museum

PITTSBURGH — Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc. announced today the opening of an art exhibit by the National Veterans Art Museum.

“Soldiers & Sailors is proud to host a micro-exhibition of mixed media artwork in collaboration with the National Veterans Art Museum,” said President & CEO John F. McCabe. “We have partnered with NVAM to provide museum guests an opportunity to explore art created and inspired by combat veterans.”

The National Veterans Art Museum, started in Chicago, inspires greater understanding of the real impact of war.  The National Veterans Art Museum is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and exhibition of art inspired by combat and created by veterans.  It is home to more than 2,500 works of art by more than 270 artists.  Personal narratives and artistic representations of war (including paintings, photographs, sculptures, poetry and music) provide transformative learning opportunities in art, history and civics.

“As a Board member of The National Veterans Art Museum and a life-long Pittsburgher, I am thrilled to be partnering with Soldiers and Sailors to bring this amazing exhibition to a community that I love.  Our exhibit at Soldiers and Sailors is the first step to setting up a permanent branch of The NVAM in Pittsburgh.  Our Pittsburgh Advisory Committee led by Phil Koch and that includes John F. McCabe, President & CEO of Soldiers & Sailors is working hard on raising funds necessary to make NVAM Pittsburgh a reality!” said Becky Flaherty, NVAM Board of Directors.

Preview of the NVAM exhibit will be available to guests attending the Cannon Ball Gala, Saturday, November 15, 2014.  The exhibit officially opens on Monday, November 17, 2014 during museum hours from 10 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Please visit Soldiers & Sailors website at for more information.
