PITTSBURGH — Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc. announced it will recognize the contributions senior citizens make in communities throughout Pennsylvania by offering FREE admission for all seniors on Thursday, August 21, 2014, for National Senior Citizens Day.

“We are happy to take part in the National Senior Citizens Day and open our historic memorial and museum to the seniors in our Region,” said President and CEO John F. McCabe. “This is a way of showing our appreciation and giving something back to all seniors both veterans and civilians”.

Former US President Ronald Reagan initiated National Senior Citizens Day. This observance was designated for August 21st and established in 1988 to honor senior citizens in the US who made positive contributions in their communities. The day was also created to bring awareness of social, health, and economic issues that affect senior citizens.

Soldiers & Sailors National Senior Citizens Free Admission Day is Thursday, August 21, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. All seniors are welcome to visit and enjoy our memorial that is dedicated to paying tribute to those men and women of Pennsylvania who unselfishly gave of themselves in serving their country during the American wars.

Soldiers & Sailors is the nation’s only military museum dedicated to honoring the men and women of all branches of service, and in all capacities (Active, Reserve, Guard). The historic building was designed by renowned architect Henry Hornbostel and has exhibits covering all of America’s conflicts, from the Civil War to our present operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The museum offers a unique look into American history by telling the stories of the individuals that served our country through military equipment and personal mementos, as well as detailing the effects our military conflicts have had on society.
